Este Kirchhoff (any pronouns) is a multi-instrumentalist, soundartist and improviser from Essen, Germany.

Drawing from a variety of influences like noise, punk, free jazz, folk and glitch-electronica, their work is freely moving between different genres.

In addition to developing their own string and percussion instruments, they play different instruments, like banjo, harmonica, dulcimer, guitar, laptop- and DIY-electronics. Their choice to often use cheap, defunct, easily accessible and self built instruments, found objects and open source software is informed by their reflection on consumerism, accessibility and the commodification of music and music technology.

In their solo performances they incorporate unpredictability and randomness through the use of RNG (random number generators), feedback and deliberate malfunctions, creating complex soundscapes on the edge of collapse.

Este Kirchhoff is active in a number of bands and projects, including Jan Klare's large ensemble The Dorf, the 8-piece improvising collective Nasssau, an ongoing duo with dancer Ying Yun Chen, Handsome Couple - a duo with drummer Simon Camatta - and various other formations in the fields of experimental contemporary music.

They also compose and perform music for theatre and modern dance and are a member of the theatre collective Armada Theater, with whom they produce pieces for young audiences with a strong focus on ecological and socio-political issues.

Este's solo record „for the void“ is available on Umland Records
